Payguard Escrow App

Payguard is Nigeria’s leading online escrow platform designed to build trust in peer-to-peer online transactions. It provides a secure middle-layer for buyers and sellers, holding funds in escrow until agreed conditions are met, thus mitigating fraud and building confidence in digital commerce.

Project Objective

The core mission of Payguard was to redefine how Nigerians approach online trade—by removing the fear of scams and ensuring both buyers and sellers are protected. The product needed to support seamless workflows on both web and mobile, with fast transaction resolution, user verification, and transparent dispute resolution.

Product Management Challenges

• Security: Designing escrow workflows that prevent premature fund release, even in the event of unauthorized access or manipulation.
• Platform Interoperability: Ensuring the Laravel-based web platform and the Flutter mobile app delivered a consistent and reliable user experience across devices.
• Real-Time Transaction Updates: Building a robust system that instantly notifies users of transaction status changes, releases, or disputes.
• User Onboarding: Creating a simplified onboarding experience that educates users about escrow without overwhelming them with legal or financial jargon.
• Dispute Resolution: Implementing a transparent and fair mediation process with admin dashboards for conflict resolution, including evidence upload and timed responses.
• Compliance: Maintaining full compliance with CBN guidelines and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) practices while scaling the platform rapidly.

My Role

I served as Product Manager, leading the cross-functional collaboration between backend developers, Flutter engineers, UI/UX designers, and stakeholders. I authored product requirements, defined roadmap priorities, built wireframes, and oversaw go-to-market strategy. I also directly contributed to user testing and customer education campaigns to increase platform adoption and retention.
